There are some great quotes from this BusinessInsider article by Roy Hessel, that I will be expanding upon, but for now I will use some direct quotes from the article both to preserve the material and to add my own thoughts and later removing MUCH of what I have quoted below:

No emails, no calls, no Tweets, no tech, no matter what. For anyone who's struggling with finding time for self and family, I'd like to share what I've learned. MAKE THIS TIME SACRED AND DON'T APOLOGIZE FOR IT

WITH DISCONNECTION COMES RECONNECTION

"Another key is to turn your phone off. In fact, the more devices you can shut off, the better. I take this to an extreme and make a conscious effort to turn off everything — computers, TVs, tablets, and anything else that might distract me from myself, my family, and being present.

In our uber-connected world, I'd argue that this act of deliberate technological disconnect is more important than ever. Americans aged 18 and older now spend 11 hours per day in total using electronic media like TV, smartphones, and computers. Being "always on" like that isn't healthy for anyone. For CEOs, the corresponding stress can ultimately be counterproductive , possibly leading to poor decision-making and impaired growth.

An absence of technology, by contrast, often leaves more time for the important stuff. In my case, friends often come over. Dinner becomes a five-hour affair as we eat and chat into the wee hours. CULTIVATE YOUR CONTEMPLATIVE SELF

"Without the disruptions of electronic screens or any appointments, I have a chance to read, talk (really talk) with friends and, above all, think. I take a break from always reacting, plotting, and striving to get ahead. All of this is key to being human and being alive — and to cultivating an inner self.

In his bestseller " The Road to Character ," New York Times columnist David Brooks outlines our "two selves": Adam I, or the person we are at work, and Adam II, the person we are around our family and friends. Brooks explains that there needs to be a rebalancing in favor of our true selves, or, as he puts it, focusing energy on our eulogy virtues, not just our resume virtues.

Our professional self is the one we invest so much time, energy, and frustration in building throughout the week. Wrapped up in this concept is the ideal of the workaholic who sacrifices his own time and labor to try to get ahead. We all know this person: he or she gets grouped in with entrepreneur glory words like "hustle," "grit," and "drive."

But a person isn't complete without their inner, contemplative self. This individual all too often gets ignored or overlooked in our always-on, demanding work lives. And it's only with regular downtime that we're able to give attention to this critical component — indeed, the critical component — of who we are.

My unwavering commitment to downtime is a sacred occasion for me, and I understand it may not seem possible for everybody. But I do think there's at least a lesson here for everyone who is overworked and struggling to disconnect. So I must first admit, that I did borrow much of this list from an article entitled "20 Life Skills Not Taught in School" that the author feels strongly that should be and I would have to agree. I have deviated a little from this list, and the main reason I chose to write about this topic is because part of my own business I operate in Asia is a mix between English tutoring and business consulting, and I actually had one adult student tell me that, "he felt that learning English while at the same time I was also trying to teach him life skills were not necessary." SHOCKED?! Yeah so was I, even when I mentioned that things like learning how to be on time, since this person has NEVER been on time to any of our lessons, often showing up 10-30 minutes late, as well as not reading through my emails with pertinent information, or learning like skills such as time management, understanding how to handle money, and others. Yes folks, apparently this is where I often see how poorly people reject common sense altogether and it's frightening! Especially the fact that this particular individual is a Catholic priest that plans to study not only in the United States, but New York City and has an extremely basic level of English. I say, good luck to you sir, because with an attitude as this, New Yorkers are going to eat you alive! #NOMNOMNOM style!

One of the main reasons I tend to use direct content from other websites is over time the material vanishes, there are too many stupid pop-ups, and I add my own flavor normally to fit in to travel. I know I've copy and pasted much below for NOW, but that's because I've slept about 2-hours in almost 48-hours and it's starting to catch up to me LOL. Will be writing more thoroughly very soon! I've left the above statement in bold, even though I've taken time over several days to complete this blog entry, but wanted to let you know why I left large chunks of direct quotes from successfulstudent.org and added my own comments along with the fact that often when I go to these websites I am bombarded by pop-up advertisements, which I find to be the most annoying and ineffective sources of advertising on the web!

1. HOW TO READ A MAP & GEOGRAPHY

I truly love how both Millenials and even older people, especially in Seoul—one of the most technologically advanced cities in the world—say, "they don't need to worry about reading a physical map because they have a smartphone!" Yeah, seriously right? But, I also know plenty of people back in the States that couldn't find their way home if it wasn't programmed into their GPS either. This reliance on technology, yes is amazing, but it doesn't replace the basic need to read and understand maps in general! And, I am not just talking about city or country maps, but once I explain to people how to read a map of an office building and ask if their smartphone has an app for that, they realize, "oh wow you're right maybe I should learn to understand basic directional skills." It's sad that some people have no idea what the symbol of a compass is, knowing which direction the sun rises or sets, etc. Please people learn to read a map, especially when you think if you travel or not, sometimes people will give handwritten directions or verbal directions to you and this to me still falls under the category of understanding basic map comprehension skills.

People often underestimate the importance of the study of Geography! You would be amazed at how many people I've met that didn't know where Colorado is located on a map, and they were Americans! You would also be surprised when people also can barely locate other huge areas on a global map or individual countries. I plead with you people, study where countries are located and why they have or still have importance in today's modern society. Whether this be due to natural resources, foreign trade agreements, regional military alliances, etc. I often ask people to tell me what is the world's most recent recognized country in the world, without using Google or any search engine? Could you answer this question and if so, what the significance and reason for doing so was?

If you cannot give or receive basic directions using words such as; left, right, around, near, next to, behind, in front of, north, south, east, and west whether in English or your native language there is a BIG problem that you need to address immediately. Tell me if there's an app for constant changing cities such as Seoul, NYC, Lima, Paris, and others. Below are TWO EXAMPLES I use when people insist that reading a map is unnecessary because of smartphone GPS apps.

2. BASIC MATH

Ok, so you know how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide. Good for you. I know that most people may not need to know the formula of a triangle, solving for X, those pesky questions of Tom who is standing on a train and if he were to take the express an hour later traveling at a rate of BLANK how much earlier or later would he arrive because I say, Tom you foolish man why take a train when you can take Uber right? Hahaha. Ok, but guess how often I've traveled countries and I've been able to negotiate apartments, hotels, private bungalows down to less than half the price including renting places for less than $2 a night! I've also had to deal with quick mathematical calculations not to get ripped off because the first thing I do when I plan to travel to a new country is know what the relative exchange rate is and from there BOOM GOES THE DYNAMITE, because I will know what the rate of $1, $5, $10, and $20 will be in the local currency.

For example, it's roughly 22,000 Vietnam Dong to $1 USD. So tell me when you've come off a 24-hour bus where you've barely slept, and you have a horde of taxi drivers in your face trying to grab your bag and get you in their taxi as you try to negotiate a fair price. Can you tell me what $5 should be or how much a ₫1,000,000 without using a calculator? Then of course being Asian I just sit around and read
Calculus books for fun, because if Donald Trump wants his wall built I'm sure he's going to need inadequate minorities to come through after make sure the work was done correctly by them true 'Mericans that may be taking err jobs!

3. NAVIGATION SKILLS

Whether you are going for a walk, arriving in a major city, being in the outdoors, people still continuous rely upon technology. Learn to use that thing God gave you called memory and also visual landmarks to help you remember what and where you are, whether that be a sign with what's that called again, oh yes, letters or numbers, or distinct landmarks unless you plan to carry a bag of bread crumbs to sprinkle behind you everywhere you go.

4. TIME MANAGEMENT

As a long-term traveler working a professional corporate career of 12-years under the backbreaking labor of Mr. Mark Cuban and Rachael Weaver—task masters that would make working for Kim Jung Un a resort style lounge job—haha I have to say that time management wasn't entirely a priority to me, that is until I realized that I was not a trustfund child nor independently wealthy but had to be creative with both my budget and learn to become a travelpreneur. Since, leaving the greatest state in all the states--Colorado, the 3oh3, the Mile High City, 5280 suckers, and all the other wonderful nicknames--I've found that once you don't have a business partner that steals money from you and kills your motivation by taking all the credit for work he's incapable of doing or being verbally abused daily from an incompetent sea captain that cannot even remember to check their oil, having the right set of tools, or checking the coolant levels time management can be relatively easy to manage with some discipline. Once again I've noticed that when I operate my own businesses without ANY partners, not only am I able to make all of the decisions because my business modeling has thankfully always been very well conceived and am I very productive of course, because at the current moment it's 4:14am and I have been up for two-hours after waking up yesterday at this time and going to bed at about 11:30pm. I haven't used an alarm to wake me up 99% of the time even though I keep a busy schedule of meeting with clients and have never been late for a meeting, even morning meetings and they have shown that this is a very positive thing when related to stress. In a Smithsonian report entitled Your Alarm Clock May Be Hazardous to Your Health, it explains how this can not only possibly be detrimental to your health, but that I generally feel more rested on less sleep because my internal circadian clock operates at Troy Time. I like that.

5. HOW TO BUDGET AND UNDERSTAND FINANCES

I'm going to begin by quoting directly from successfulstudent.org, "The importance of handling money responsibly is obviously valuable. Accounting, finance, and business classes do explain accounting procedures, financing arrangements, and business structures, but do not focus much on personal finances, saving or investing. The job of these classes is to prepare students for working environments, and not necessarily for managing their own finances. Popular financial personality Dave Ramsey’s advice for money management and getting out of debt is a good place to start. Furthermore, higher education doesn’t spend much time teaching students how to be self employed. For the self-starter, knowledge of how to set up their company’s structure, manage the finances, pay taxes and reinvest into the company is crucial, and can mean the difference between failure and success." Besides all of the importance of budgeting and finance advice from above, I think understanding things like interest rates on all types of loans from credit cards to mortgages as well as an overall basic understanding of global markets and trends, even if you aren't investing in different stock markets, understanding how international business and globalization effect these trends can save you hundreds if not thousands of trillions of dollars! Ok, that was an exaggeration of course, but it can save you money. Most recently, I had a strong feeling that regardless of whom the next President of the United States would be that the global financial market would see some changes, and therefore I took a small risk by transferring $5K via an international wire transfer on the day of the election, which was morning in the Seoul while some of the Eastern Time Zone cities had already finished their polling data and by doing such, I saved myself about the cost of my upcoming round trip flight to Europe next month! Like the quote from Goodwill Hunting (since I recently watched this), "My boys, got wicked smarts."

6. SELF-CONTROL

Everything from learning to compromise in situations professionally or socially, as well as patience, understanding, and many other things that take self-control. A valuable life lesson to learn, otherwise you may just get a five-fingers to the face SLAP!

7. HOME REPAIR AND BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF TOOLS

Regardless of whether you own a home or not, understanding the basics of home repair can be an absolutely necessary skill. Things that come to mind are: knowing where your electrical breaker switch may be located to shut off power immediately and the same goes for the main water valve, especially if you suddenly get a pipe that bursts, as happened when I was managing a hostel in Nicaragua. I've been very fortunate having a dad and uncle that are both contractors and growing up I learned how to do a lot of home repair and renovation type of work—often being woken up early on the weekend or during my summer vacation to help convert our garage in to a a bedroom, renovate and demolition safely of a kitchen, bathroom, etc. as well as even assisting in seeing what it's like from building a home from the ground-up starting with digging out the foundation, pouring the concrete, using heavy to light machinery, framing, electrical, drywall, plastering (or texturing), etc.

Also quoting from the article, "knowing what tools are necessary for specific jobs makes the work much easier. Learn how to read a ruler and tape measure and be able to take accurate measurements." It's quite amazing to me how many people I've met around the world, mainly in considerably first-world countries have no idea the difference between a Philips or flat head screwdriver, while individuals that grow up in third-world countries could probably fix almost anything! I've always said that if suddenly technology evaporated overnight that third-world countries may be in the best situation to survive since they have often been doing so for decades in the modern era. A few examples if the fact that old school buses from the United States are used as local transportation aka 'Chicken Buses' throughout Central America and in order to keep these old school buses that are older than myself running, and not just running daily, but being pushed hard EVERY SINGLE DAY is incredible to me, especially since most are overloaded by the so-called passenger capacity by double or triple the number of individuals, farm animals, machinery, etc.

The second was while staying on one of the incredibly 4,000 islands on the Mekong River in Laos where on the small island of Don Det, these locals entered the 21st Century without having electricity! Yes, imagine that. Now, of course not only do these have electrical lines strung and meager Wifi that now connects them with the rest of the world, but it's still a relatively simplistic way of living that I have absolutely come to love.

So digressing, if you cannot identify even a PlaykoolⓇ set of children's plastic tools, you should certainly learn how to identify them and how to use them!

8. BASIC CAR MAINTENANCE AND DRIVING

Basic car maintenance and repair should be a no brainer in my personal opinion, whether you own a car or not. You never know when you may find yourself in an emergency situation and need to know how to drive, change a flat tire, identify the basics of 'under the hood' parts. I also think it's necessary, and once again as much as a pain in the you know what to my dad teaching me how to drive stick or manual, I'm certainly glad he did because this helped land me volunteer jobs in Guatemala and Panama. I still think the original author from successfulstudent.org made some great points stating that, "Regular maintenance can save on repair bills, such as changing the oil every so many miles. Also, changing the oil and oil filter yourself is an additional way to save money. Maintaining proper air pressure in the tires helps gas mileage to go farther, and knowing how to change a tire can mean the difference between being stuck on the side of the road or a momentary setback. Repairs and maintenance are inevitable for anyone who drives a vehicle for any reasonable length of time, and as such it would be helpful if these skills were taught to students, given that quite literally almost everyone will encounter such issues. Also, knowing which vehicle to buy and which to avoid, based on their performance and safety ratings, and which holds the most resale value, are good things to know." 9. POLITICS, CURRENT EVENTS, HISTORY

I'll be the first to admit that sitting through History class back in high school was not an interesting subject for me. I often saw this as a series of dead people where we were just required to memorize dates of these past events. It wasn't until my first backpacking trip to Europe that I felt as though History truly came alive to me—it was no longer confined to a series of textbooks—but something tangible and now my thirst and interest for how History and current events often mirror one another. Throughout the dawn of civilizations—long before technology—current events have always been important and they continue to be, obviously! Everything from Brexit to the Trump Presidency that will begin on January 20th of 2017 as well as what is currently happening in the tiny country of South Korea has global implications. You may think, South Korea? Stop and think what the largest technology company in the world is? No, not Apple.

It's Samsung and with the fiasco of the Note 7, of course this will have an effect for both the Korean domestic economy and the global markets since this is a publicly traded company. I mean if you haven't stopped to read Trump's First 100 Days Plan, I implore you to see what Foreign Policy changes he plans to make that WILL effect the cost of things for all people. It's not going to give an automatic discount to Americans, but may actually drive costs up. Especially if Trump has his way regarding International Trade Agreements, since the majority of electronics are produced in China. Just look at "*THIRD, I will direct my Secretary of the Treasury to label China a currency manipulator."

Most Americans read this and say it's a good thing, and I'm not going to give my full opinion either way, as I still love my country the #USA, however, by living in East Asia for the past several years between my travels, I've learned a great deal of the East Asian Business Market overall, since I've worked with top executives for major global corporations. And, as many people continue to state, history often repeats itself. So, in my personal opinion the next 3-years are going to be a very interesting time between the three major areas of the world I feel: North America, Europe, and East Asia including South East Asia, since China has been quietly doing what most powerful empires have done throughout history and that is either going to war or controlling the world's major trade routes, and China has done the second. Look at examples of the China-Nicaragua Canal, The Kunming-Singapore Railway that will connect mainland China with pretty much all of South East Asia, China now owns the largest port in Greece as the Port of Piraeus is sold to China, China's Trans-African Highway network will also be controlled by the Chinese, and most recently China has agreed to build Egypt a new captial city. Continue to research the sleeping Dragon of China and how as the West continues to close off it's borders, the Chinese are expanding their foreign relations by strategically planning to control the world's major trade routes! 10. TECHNOLOGY

This should not be a topic that I should have spend much time on, as the majority of the planet has some exposure to technology and we all realize the importance of it from online bill paying, communication, and more. However, I think going just a step further by staying up-to-date with technology can be helpful in terms of how to fix your broken smartphone to basic hacks of getting things accomplished LEGALLY, understanding VPNs, SEO for business, Firewalls, encrypting files for security, and others. Some sites I like are everything from 4Chan to Lifehacker to TechNewsWorld and many others.

Regarding technology, I also like to say just as I do with money, "don't let technology run your life, but make it work FOR YOU! The same with money!" Don't let money or the greed of power become your downfall, but use what you have to give to others; whether that be your energy, time, finances, knowledge, etc. I do understand that we all need to earn a living, however, it's how we approach things and how we continually reflect upon them—in my personal opinion—because it's one thing to abuse a situation or take advantage of it unfairly and another to be fair whether that be selling items or services, such as my consulting business.

11. HOW TO LIVE WITHOUT TECHNOLOGY

Taking yet another direct quote for the most part from successfulstudent.org, "With the advent and popularity of smart phones and e-readers, mechanical watches and books are becoming rarer. Can you read a single-hand watch? One benefit to reading paper books is that older books can still be read, which are usually not in any e-reader form. They can be borrowed, traded, and gifted. They don’t need to be charged. They can be signed and annotated. There are no update or platform or filetype incompatibilities. I fear that the popularity of e-readers will mean that old books will cease to be read, which will mean that we will be cut-off from our ancestors, which will mean the first generation in history which will exist as an island, annexed from common traditional humanity in many ways." You would also be surprised at how many people I've met that cannot read a map, can no longer remember series of phone numbers (often including their own), and many others, because of a complete dependency upon technology.

I will completely admit that I am guilty of this as well as growing up in the 80's I not only remember all my friend's home phone numbers, as landlines are quickly becoming a thing of the past, but I also had probably 20-plus friend's addresses, birthdays, and facts in my memory! Sadly, today that's not the case. Again, another reason I am looking forward to visiting Africa and living for several days possibly without electricity and/or technology altogether. Also, my above blog talks about for nearly five-six months I have stayed offline for an entire day, generally beginning on Saturday nights until Sunday evenings and this has made a world of difference for my sanity and just overall mental health I believe and I know that for some this is not possible, but if you can even turn your phone off for a few hours see how much of a difference this makes. Some clients I work with and Korean friends are shocked when I tell them that I not only stay offline every Sunday, but I go to the point of powering down my iPhone and leaving it at home! I also tell them that when I was living in the States and if I was out with a friend or on a date and the other person was repeatedly staring down at their screen, regardless of where we were in our meal, I would request the check! The other person, of course would ask why surprisingly, and I would simply state, that I invited them to dinner to have actual human connection and not to sit and stare at our phones between small bouts of conversation.

12. SELF DEFENSE

"We all have the right to self defense as a basic right, afforded to us by virtue of being alive. It is the job of school to prepare students for adult life in the real world in general, and it is a reality that learning self-defense can be necessary in protecting the wellbeing of yourself and your loved ones. Hopefully, no one would ever need to use self-defense, but in the event that using skills learned in self defense classes was ever necessary, exercising those skills could mean preservation of life and limb. It is better to know how to defend oneself and never need to, than need to and not know how to. Having pepper spray, mace, a concealed weapon, is a good start to self defense preparedness, however, there could be scenarios in which these are inaccessible, and old fashioned hand-to-hand combat and defense becomes necessary.

For women it is particularly advisable to know the weaknesses of a man, and how to apply maneuvers accordingly that would leave any potential violator incapacitated." For my choice, I found that taking Krav Maga lessons were extremely effective and I cannot thank David Dotson enough for providing me with FREE 1:1 lessons prior to leaving Colorado! He is not only is he very VERY well trained, but seriously one of the nicest individuals I have ever met. The only negative thing I must say about him is the fact that as a CU Buff alum, he sadly went to Colorado State University lol and was on their football team, other than that he's absolutely an amazing guy! I truly hope he gets a great laugh from this!

I AM NOT ADVOCATING hurting ANYONE on purpose or even fatally injuring someone by any means, but when I first met David, I told him the same that I was NOT looking to fight anyone, but if I were surrounded by a group, about to be kidnapped, or had that feeling that I was in danger of my life whether I gave the person or persons what they demanded that I would try to create distance, by blocking while simultaneously offensively striking to knock the attacker(s) off-balance and then run out of the area. PERIOD.

13. FIRST AID

"Along with the need for learning how to navigate healthcare for yourself and family, also important is the knowledge of rendering first aid and help, such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation, when necessary. Accidents can happen at just about any time, and being equipped with the knowledge of first response is important to the health and potentially to the life of yourself and loved ones. In extreme events, this knowledge could mean the difference between life and death. Often times the response time of medical professionals is too long, and can result in complications and worsening symptoms, which could be preventable by immediate help from a close individual. Looking for appropriate warning signs for things like a concussion, frostbite, heat exhaustion, dehydration, not breathing, etc., would be very valuable and potentially life and limb saving knowledge. Knowing how to apply CPR, clean and dress a wound, prevent infection, apply the Heimlich maneuver, apply a tourniquet, are just a few of the important aspects that could be taught to students in school and have very beneficial, life and limb saving consequences."

14. IT'S OK TO FAIL, BUT LEARN FROM IT

"There is a modern trend towards equality and egalitarianism, in academia and in school’s competitive sports, and as such the knowledge of how to deal with failure properly is being avoided, and thus not learned. It is an increasing practice of academia and sports to preserve every students sense of self confidence, and as a result students are not being told that their school work is substandard and worthy of a failing grade. Along this thinking many team sports have stopped taking scores so that there can be no winners or losers. However, there is no such atmosphere in general society that is sympathetic and concerned with an individual’s sense of self esteem, and in the real world substandard work results in negative consequences, such as losing one’s job. This practice has a tendency to make students mediocre, and fearful of taking risks. Learning from failure teaches tenacity, gumption, character, and makes one tougher and more capable of navigating life’s inevitable ups and downs."

It is important as a citizen to know and practice your rights when appropriate, and enjoy the freedoms that the U.S. has to offer. It is also beneficial to be involved in politics, from the federal to the local levels, and be aware of who the politicians are, such as the senators representing your state and the mayor of your city. Also, bills that either do or do not pass congress, or that are put to a vote, have an affect on us as citizens. For instance, in 2003, a measure was put to vote in Texas that would allow state colleges to raise their tuition cost, which passed, and tuition has been rising every year since, and as of 2013 state college tuition has risen 55%. Also, how do you register to vote, and where do you vote, and when are votes occurring?"

"Ignorance of the law will not keep a lawbreaker out of out of the criminal justice system if the law has been demonstrated to have been broken in the judicial system. Most citizens generally have a knowledge of what laws there are that have any impact on our day-to-day lives. Students should be taught, at bare minimum, the laws that might have an effect on their lives as they are in school and as they graduate and enter society as fully culpable adults. For example, is trespassing a misdemeanor or a felony? Could decorating a friend’s car be considered destruction of property? Can someone be arrested for not paying a debt, such as a credit card? What rights does someone have who has just been arrested? Given the real-life and potentially grave consequences of breaking the law, the law should be taught to students, who can then act accordingly."

16. COOKING

I'll admit that when I first left the United States with a meager amount of money to travel round the world #RTW on, I often was buying very basic items such as bread and peanut butter and drinking water for two or all three meals. When I think back on those times, sitting alone, because I was concerned about spending, instead of going out to a restaurant with a group of backpackers I had just met, I would eat a simple meal as this, and later join them to socialize. However, it's a nice feeling that as I grew from that first month to six-months and then a year and as each year passes, I have been fortunate enough to find a balance between work and travel, thereby becoming a true #travelpreneur.

"Learning how to cook and how to handle household duties are gone with the era of taking Home Economics class in high school. Nevertheless, cooking is essential to life and very beneficial to eating healthy, and therefore being healthy. With home cooking, the ingredients and dishes can be controlled, and the portions commensurate with one’s appetite. Cooking at home generally saves money over eating at restaurants. Culinary school is a specific education that comes after grade school, however, the basics of cooking, food pretreating and preparation, safety and hygiene, should be taught to all students as basic curriculum."

17. CRITICAL-THINKING & PROBLEM SOLVING

Once again, just out of exhaustion and wanting to put this blog to bed, I would like to use the direct quote, and who knows, maybe later I will come back to this blog and write more or even do an actual proof-reading, since normally I don't, which I know as a writer is awful, but that's just me folks...

"The stakes are high in our duties and responsibilities in life. The decisions we make have real-world consequences, some immediate, and some delayed, affecting ourselves and others. Making the right choices could literally mean the difference between happiness and remorse, success and failure, and so on. We need to be equipped with the ability to think through scenarios and situations which inevitably arise in our lives, not only for the sake of successful endeavors, but also for the sake of being wise for its own sake. Education is generally pragmatic, wherein the educators test students on specific data, and as such students will learn the specific data just for the test, often by rote memorization. Too often, then, students are not taught how to think through to solutions; even in math, formulas are memorized and the numbers plugged-in to the formula without an understanding of the formula’s formation and what it is solving for, and what are real scenarios it’s applicable to. Learning about Logical Consequence is a good place to start. And here’s a short video which explains a logical fallacy know as self-referential incoherency. Avoiding self-referential incoherency leads to thinking that is consistent with itself."

18. COMMUNICATION/CONVERSATION SKILLS

Maybe a bit out of laziness or feeling tired and hating when I feel that things are left incomplete, even though I have several blogs topics that I continually add to for example WORDS OF ADVICE FROM KADS (Korean Adoptees) LIVING IN KOREA TO KOREAN ADOPTEES AND THEIR FAMILIES COMING TO KOREA, I've chosen that the below direct quote from the previous article did a great job of explaining the importance of communication/conversation skills.

"This is number one [according to successfulstudent.org list] because it permeates every area and aspect of life. Conversing with coworkers, bosses, loved ones, dates, friends, spouses, neighbors, acquaintances, etc., all require certain social norms and boundaries to be observed—such as mutual respect and give-and-take—whether it’s face to face, by email, social media, and telephone. The younger generation has been called the silent generation, due to communicating overwhelmingly via mediums that do not require actually speaking to anyone, such as texting, social media messages, email, and so on. In so doing, their personal communication skills are being hindered. The broader outcome could be social isolation, arrested social development, and not learning from the common lot of other’s experiences and mistakes who are their age and older, which could stifle a person in various ways and potentially become a barrier to rewarding careers and the full enjoyment of relationships. Knowing how to connect with others, being empathetic, when to speak and when to listen, is of great value in the workplace and in interpersonal relationships. To learn the art of conversation is to actually do it, with peers and other varied and diverse people."

Lastly, I love the quote by Greek philosopher Epictetus (A.D. 55—135) "We have two ears and one mouth so that we can listen twice as much as we speak."

19. CONFIDENCE IN SAYING NO

I feel so blessed as throughout my travels, not only have I become quite the #Travelpreneur, but when I was in South America I was offered four jobs in the matter of a month and I am very humble when I say that I have had several job interviews with various companies and NOT ONCE have I NOT been offered the job, however, I have declined more job offers, business partnerships, etc in the past four-years than I have jobs in my entire life I think. There is a great deal of confidence in saying, no thank you, and moving forward. Once again entrepreneur.com had a great topic about The Power of Saying No.

I've started businesses now on two different continents, all of which have cost myself and my business partners no more than $50-$100 USD and I am proud to say that EVERY business I began was profitable within one-week with a profit margin of no less than 60%. Two of these businesses were LLC's or Limited Liability Companies registered in the State of Colorado, in the early 2000s and I was utilizing social media several years before Facebook even existed! Therefore, I do feel very blessed in terms of understanding business models, branding, marketing, etc. It's funny, because ever since all of these entrepreneurial ventures, I have numerous business investors lined-up ready to invest, but I am still very particular in whom I chose as a next business partner—if any—because I feel that two important things that I look for and they are what most successful wealthy CEO's or founder's of global corporations state and that is 1) TRUST and 2) PASSION. There are of course numerous other articles, and I thought that one entitled 8 Critical Considerations for Choosing the Right Business Partner by entrepreneur.com was an excellent list.

It sure makes things easier also when you have business partners that aren't stealing money from you, spreading lies about you, but when they are left to try and operate a business that they felt they had sole control of, only to realize they actually had no idea what they were doing and that the person that handled much of the overall business model was in fact the person you stole from and now has moved on to other business ventures, all I can say is that I still hope the best for this person, but I would certainly never do business with him and feel that it was also shameful that his home country of the United Kingdom #UK had given him a non-profit organization title to raise funds that he was using for his own personal needs. I suppose it also goes to show, that I left the situation at the right time as after I walked away from this business partnership where my so-called business partner owed me several thousand dollars, that he swore he didn't have. I wasn't going to stay and try and fight for meager amounts of money—even though as a budget traveler, we all know that this can mean months of extended travel, especially when you're used to living on $10 or less per day—but again, after leaving l later heard through other backpackers, since Central America is not a large region by any means, that he was later involved with the police where his passport was taken away while being investigated, thereby not being allowed to leave the country, since one of the people he also stole from was the hostel we managed and the owner was a retired American Wall Street Stockbroker that had lived in Nicaragua for years and owned a prominent hotel in Granada. Sometimes, it baffles, me what people think they can get away with concerning lies and stealing and when they all come catching up to the person, they act as if this is shocking news to them!

In conclusion, I always like to challenge individuals by asking them how they define success and happiness? STOP, for just a moment and think about how you define these two topics for yourself. I'll tell you what, my answer does not include starting a business with the sole purpose of making money—I could careless about becoming a millionaire or owning more things—because I have had many of these things in life, and having more money, a better status symbol of what company you work for etc, none of these will bring you happiness. Yes, they may make life a little easier, but guess, what I've found, is that some of the most unhappy people are some of the wealthiest I've met in life. So that should tell you something right there.

20. THE BIBLE

I thought successfulstudent.org did a great job in why they felt it necessary to add the Bible to both their list, and why I feel it's necessary and important to add to mine, so I wanted to quote them directly, "The Bible is not covered in public education due to the separation of church and state. However, in teaching what the Bible says as an education in history, literature, ethics, etc., doesn’t mean state endorsement of it as a religious position. The Bible is the greatest selling book in the history of the world, and in certain households the only education or exposure some students will have to the Bible would be in education. Given the influence of the Bible into western culture and it’s impact throughout the world, to be denied and potentially remain ignorant of scripture would be detrimental to a well rounded, thorough education in its own right. Learning what the Bible contains will put people in touch with what the majority of humanity has also learned for the past two thousand years."
