Being a geek is all about being honest about what you enjoy and not being afraid to demonstrate that affection. It means never having to play it cool about how much you like something. It's basically a license to proudly emote on a somewhat childish level rather than behave like a supposed adult. Being a geek is extremely liberating. — Simon Pegg

The common occurrence of saying goodbye to new friends has become a regularity when traveling, and today it is no difference as I wish farewell and safe travels to fellow geeks, and wonderful new friends, Stephen and Alix. Driving their little Honda that could, their adventure began in San Diego and has lead them as far south as Panama before turning around to make the long trek north with a final destination of Vancouver. More changes are in the air, as Jamie and Omeed have left the hostel from the previous night’s drama and are in search of couchsurfing near Playa Maderas. Contemplating joining them, I’ve decided to stay behind, and the late morning has displaced my only former roommate Claudio that quit his long-standing status at the hostel the night before after a heated argument with the manager. Afraid that I will be missing the fiery Italian that clings tightly to his fanny pack, he has chosen to move into the vacant dorms across from the pool, but now as a guest and no longer a staff member. Just as changes with the end of summer would develop back home, this seems to be no different, but has a new sense of irony to life in Nicaragua.
