The brick walls are there for a reason. The brick walls are not there to keep us out. The brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. Because the brick walls are there to stop the people who don’t want it badly enough. They’re there to stop the other people. — Randy Pausch

Last day of being a paid staff member at The Surfing Donkey Hostel, but still winning as usual, since I will be staying on as a volunteer in exchange for free accommodations. I am excited since I hope to be spending more of my free time working with the Nicaraguan Children’s Foundation, and the thought of trying to juggle my time between the two is an overwhelming thought. Jomes, my great Cali friend that took his own RTW and has experiences all his own, warned me of becoming bored from the rigors of travel through the absence of a routine, yet I feel fortunate not to have found this to be a posing threat thus far. Yes, there have been lazy days just as anyone tends to have for the sake of personal sanity, and therefore, the infamous Me-Days are essential even while living in such a beautiful place as SJDS. But, my passion to gain fulfillment by investing in people’s lives, especially when you are exposed daily to the poverty of the conditions many live with, I cannot help but feel a deep sense of compassion to share my time, my energy, all that I am in assisting in changing the preconceived ideals of the average traveler.
